Static Live Facial Recognition Cameras in Croydon Town Centre

New Static Live Facial Recognition Cameras launched in Croydon Town Centre on 1st October. Already they have yielded impressive results. After just two deployments there have been seventeen arrests for a range of offences such as stalking, domestic abuse, indecent exposure and actual bodily harm. 

These cameras are being trialled in the town centre to bring offenders to justice and to keep the public safe. They are only switched on during a live deployment with officers on the ground and permanently delete any biometric data if someone is not on the watch list. It is important that we quickly identify those who are wanted to protect victims, businesses and the community.
